👋Hi, everyone! It’s Tanya again, bringing you the holiday mood. Today I’m going to tell you about some different interesting New Year traditions around the world. Some of them can be useful for you and you can try them in two days. Let’s get started. Making noise seems to be a favourite New Year pastime around the world. In Italia the church bells peal “the goodbye” to the old year, in Swiss they beat drums and North America prefers sounding sirens and horns to bid the old year farewell.
✨Loads of food for New Year’s Eve is a feature to adore this holiday. Some of the dishes suppose to bring good luck and symbolize something. For instance, in Spain they eat 12 grapes for every chime of the clock. In India and Pakistan rice promises prosperity. Eating the Olivier salad probably symbolizes that you live in Russia or Belarus .
🍾Although the pop of a champagne cork signals the arrival of the New Year around the world, some countries have their own beverage-based traditions. Wassail, a punch-like drink named after the Gaelic term for “good health,” is served in some parts of England. Spiced “hot pint” is the Scottish version of Wassail. Traditionally, the Scots drank to each others’ prosperity and also offered this warm drink to neighbors along with a small gift. In Holland, toasts are made with hot, spiced wine.
☃️After midnight, family and friends visit each other’s home. The “first foot” to cross a threshold after midnight will predict the next year’s fortune. Although the tradition varies, those deemed especially fortunate as “first footers” are new brides, new mothers, those who are tall and dark (and handsome?) or anyone born on January 1. That’s all for today! Please, share down below in the comment section what are your personal New Year’s traditions? Hope you enjoyed reading this. Love y’all. Happy Holidays!🌟
